My aim is to restore and maintain independence and dignity through practical advice and solutions

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is the use of assessment and intervention to develop, recover or maintain the day to day activities or occupation of a person.

Home Support Service

Home Support Service is the process of supporting clients and their families when there is a need for skilled and often clinical input.

What is the role of an occupational therapist?

Occupational therapists (OT's) are healthcare professionals who work with people of all ages with the aim of improving their ability to do everyday tasks that they are finding difficult. OT's look at the physical effects of ageing, injury or disease and also address the psycho-social, community and environmental factors that influence functional ability. An OT will assess why a person cannot do what they would like or need to do, and depending on the situation, will find solutions to maximise independence and function.

Occupational Therapy Assessment

The OT assessment can be provided in a private home or a Care Home. The OT will look at the activities you want to do but are finding difficult and identify aids, equipment or different strategies that could increase independence and safety. The OT will also look at how your environment is set up and whether it could be adapted.

Recommendation and Advice

A written summary of recommendations and advice can be provided as well as sign posting to other services. Support throughout the process to obtain specialist equipment is also available.

Home Support Service: working with solicitors

I work closely with solicitors where they are acting as deputies, attorneys and trustees responsible for elderly and vulnerable clients. I carry out regular assurance visits for deputies to meet their responsibilities to clients and the Office of the Public Guardian and personally act for clients as their deputy for health and welfare when requested. I provide solutions as well as advice, placing the client's needs at the heart of what I do, and often work closely with other healthcare professionals, relatives and carers, equipment specialists, builders, surveyors and architects.
